GPM Marine have completed the major refurbishment to the Fairy Bower Ocean Pool in Manly. These works include replacement of the existing storm water pipe, The construction of a new storm water pit, Installation of new scuppers to the newly constructed culvert interface and the installation of living seawall concrete tiles to the western side of the culvert. These living seawall tiles were installed to help transform the culvert into an ecologically friendly structure. These tiles provide space, moisture, shade, and water retention needed for survival of marine life.
Fairy bower is a popular dive sanctuary due to its rich marine life and microhabitat ecosystems; it was important to GPM to work closely with the local council and Sydney Institute of Marine Science to ensure that all potential impacts were identified and carefully managed through appropriate control measures over the duration of construction with minimal impact to the environment.
Overall, the new Storm water outlet system will have a positive impact environmentally on public safety, the local community and will reduce the potential for sand erosion by re-directing storm water to the desired outlet.
